These three volumes of Facing an Unequal World: Challenges for a Global Sociology, edited by Michael Burawoy (UC-Berkeley), Mau-kuei Chang (Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica), and Michelle Fei-yu Hsieh (Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica) consist of papers originally presented at a conference of National (Sociological) Associations, March 23-25, 2009 in Taipei.
The papers address the obstacles to forging a global community of sociologists, obstacles that include inequalities, dominations and dependencies within as well as between nations. The Conference discussed new directions for sociology that might address those obstacles and meet the challenge of a global sociology. The conference papers are arranged into three volumes, divided according to region: Volume I, Latin America and Africa; Volume II, Asia; Volume III, Europe.
